DGS rally ends Benet's hopes in regional

As the eighth seed at the Glenbard South Regional of the IHSBCA Phil Lawler Summer Classic, Benet played some inspired baseball for 27 innings. The fifth inning Thursday against Downers Grove South is the one that the Redwings would like to have back.

Stepping up to home plate with the bases juiced and the game knotted at 5 in the top of the seventh, Benet catcher Matt Dorsett lined a 3-2 pitch to right-center for a bases-clearing double off Naperville Central right-hander Marc Mantucca. The hit gave the 8th-seeded Redwings an 8-5 victory over the fifth-seeded Redhawks in a Glenbard South Regional semifinal of the Phil Lawler Summer Classic.

Benet shuts down Carmel

Benet 5-6, Carmel 3-3: In the first game, John Boyle (7-2) tossed 5 1/3 innings of four-hit ball, striking four along the way. In Game 2, Pat Callahan (2-3) got the win, just missing a complete game by two outs. John Cunningham and Connor Reilly each hit a two-run homer. Benet is 17-10 overall.
