St. Edward's Katie Yohn had a productive trip to Peoria on Sunday.

In town for a basketball camp, Yohn met with Bradley women's basketball coach Paula Buscher over lunch and verbally committed to play for the Braves starting in 2009.

Yohn, who will begin her senior year at St. Edward this fall, led the area in scoring with 20 points per game last season and tallied more than 35 points on two occasions.

Now she'll have a chance to put that prolific scoring ability on display at the Division-I level thanks to her full scholarship to Bradley, which according to Yohn was her top college choice.

"The coaches are amazing and I met a couple girls that play now and they are all really nice," Yohn said of the factors that played into her decision. "Also, the people I've talked to that have graduated before from (Bradley) say it's a great school, and I've heard only good things about it."

In addition to becoming the 11th player in program history to score 1,000 career points last season, Yohn also averaged six rebounds, five assists and nearly four steals for the Green Wave as a junior. She was a second-team All-State selection by both the Associated Press and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

The Braves finished 12-18 last season in Buscher's eighth year with the program. Buscher said recently that this coming year's recruiting class is the strongest she's had while at Bradley.

"Bradley has a really nice basketball program," St. Edward coach Michelle Dawson said. "Katie is really excited, so I'm really happy for her."

Yohn, who also plays volleyball for St. Edward, said she's glad to have her college decision made before beginning her fourth varsity basketball season.

"It's kind of relaxing, but now the hard work begins with trying to get ready to play," Yohn said. "I'm really happy and it's a sigh of relief to have that done."
