South Elgin senior Adam Hodge and Elgin senior D'Angelo Stewart will both continue their basketball careers at nearby community colleges.

Hodge decided Tuesday night to play at Rock Valley College in Rockford next season. Meanwhile, Stewart recently chose to play at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon next winter.

In Stewart, Sauk Valley will get a three-year varsity member who averaged 8.7 points, a team-best 6.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while helping lead the Maroons to a sectional title this season.

A 6-foot-6 center, Stewart showed his vast potential when he scored 15 points and grabbed 23 rebounds in a regional semifinal win against St. Charles East. Stewart joins a recruiting class at Sauk Valley that includes Rockford Boylan's Stephon Valentine, who was on the Titans team that lost to Elgin in the Jacobs Class 4A Sectional title game.

"I really liked the coaching staff and the team," Stewart said of his reasons for choosing Sauk Valley. "I really think I'll fit in well there."

Hodge, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged a team-best 13.2 points last season while helping lead the Storm to a 13-15 finish.

The two-year varsity starter received interest from several four-year Division-II and Division-III programs, but when no concrete offers were on the table he decided to look closely at Rock Valley.

"I'm going to take a year or two to get bigger and work on my game," Hodge said. "I had a lot of interest from some D-IIIs and D-IIs, but my AAU coach suggested I wait a year and get bigger and my stock will grow from there."
