Montini’s Westerkamp picks Nebraska

Montini junior receiver Jordan Westerkamp has committed to Nebraska, according to Broncos coach Chris Andriano.
Westerkamp, a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder, had 89 catches for 1,631 yards and 21 touchdowns for the Class 5A state champs last fall. He picked the Cornhuskers over Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan State and Illinois.
“He really enjoyed his (trip) out there for the spring game,” Andriano said. “He really liked the coaching staff.”
The chance to play more games close to home with the Huskers joining the Big Ten was a factor in Westerkamp’s decision, according to Andriano.
“Family is important to him,” Andriano said.
Westerkamp’s comfort level with the Nebraska staff allowed him to speed up his timetable for making a commitment.
“His plan was to make a decision for sure before the season started,” Andriano said. “(Now) life gets easier. For sure, it gets hectic.”
