Michael Orris, a 6-foot-3 point guard from Crete-Monee, has orally committed to Creighton.

Orris, a junior, was one of the most sought after point guards in the state.

He whittled the college recruiting process down to three teams: Illinois, UIC and Creighton.

And while the allure of playing for a Big Ten program like Illinois was tempting, as was the opportunity to play close to home at UIC, Orris preferred Creighton.

“Everything about Creighton was the right fit for me,” Orris said. “There’s not one thing I don’t like about Creighton. It has a big time basketball feel and a small school environment, which is geared toward me.

“The players they have are going to help my skill set. I’m going to have a chance to help them get to the NCAA Tournament four years in a row.”

Orris transferred from Palatine after his sophomore season. His impact at Crete-Monee was immediate. He averaged 10.2 points nad 6.2 assists per game, impressing with his knack for the dazzling pass, fearless drives to the hoop, leadership and unselfishness.

Orris helped the Warriors to a 25-4 mark, the Southland Conference championship and a berth in the Class 4A supersectionals.

“It’s a great fit for everyone,” Crete-Monee coach Matt Ryndak said. “Mike wanted a big school feel and a small school academics. Creighton has a group of young, talented players who know how to play the game. That feeds right into Mike’s skill set.”
