At Palatine
Palatine senior Jocelyn Kuksa finished the final home meet of her career with a flourish, winning three individual events and helping the Pirates to a sectional title.
Kuksa was the champion in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches), high hurdles (14.7) and 300 hurdles (44.8).
Fellow Pirate Martha Shepard hurled her way into the record books, winning the shot put with a toss of 43-8, which set a school record and is among the top 50 throws in state history.
Wheeling’s Amber Stack was a two-time winner, taking both the 3,200 (10:43.9) and the 1,600 (5:06.3). Stack lopped nearly 10 seconds off her personal best in the 3,200.
Evanston reasserted its dominance in sprints, highlighted by Adrienne Slaughter’s wins in the 200 dash (24.9) and 400 dash (57.2).

At St. Charles North
Molly Glantz of Barrington and Toni Graham of Conant completed their journeys to compete in the long-awaited state meet next week.
Each set her goal of reaching the state meet for different reasons. Glantz was part of Barrington’s state champion last year and also won the 3,200 relay. Graham, last year, finished in second place by the most slender of margins to East St. Louis’ Ronecia Nash in the 100 and 200 events.
The Cornell-bound Glantz won the 300 low hurdles in 44.0. She added championships in the 100 low hurdles (15.1), 3,200 relay (9:03.1), and 1,600 relay (3:58.8).
‘‘It was me against the clock in the 300 but the 1,600 relay is my favorite,’’ Glantz said.
The Alabama-bound Graham was the anchor on school-record runs in the 400 relay (47.4) and 800 relay (1:40.9) and pulled away to win the 100 (11.9) and 200 (24.8).
‘‘I’ve been looking forward to next week for a year,’’ Graham said.
Barrington won the team title with 108 points.
