Fifth verse, same as the first.

Chris Sweitzer scored a game-high three goals and Will Harris and Steven Shapiro added two goals and two assists Sunday to lead New Trier to a 10-6 victory over Loyola at Toyota Park for the Trevians’ fifth consecutive boys lacrosse state championship.

‘‘Five in a row is not only a big thing for our team, but past teams and New Trier tradition,’’ Harris said. ‘‘It’s important for each team to prove they belong with teams that came before them.’’

After first-quarter goals from Michael Parks and Chad Sawyer, Sweitzer scored twice in the second quarter to give New Trier (20-1) a 4-0 lead.

Loyola (11-4) responded with three of the next four goals to close within 5-3 with after Jake Dolan’s goal with 5:23 remaining in the third.

But Harris answered back for New Trier with a goal six seconds later after he won the ensuing face-off.

‘‘Will’s done that repeatedly throughout the season,’’ first-year New Trier coach Tom Herrala said. ‘‘The other team will score a big goal and he’ll respond with a big face-off win and then take it right at them.’’

The goal ignited a 3-0 Trevian run and Loyola, which has lost the last four state championship games to New Trier, never got closer than three after that.

Will Forsyth led the Ramblers with two goals and two assists and Trent Teister, Patrick Marquard and Ryan Brennan each had one goal. Goalie Gavin McGarry made five saves for Loyola.

John Holt had four saves and Charlie Carothers’ goal with 2:19 remaining in the fourth finished the scoring for New Trier.

‘‘We didn’t do anything special, we just came in and played our game,’’ Sweitzer said. ‘‘We worked so hard this year and we knew that we had it in us to finish it off.’’
