Top girls cross country teams

1. Geneva: The Vikings are the favorites to repeat. They return everyone and even bring back a few runners who were injured last season.

2. Hinsdale Central: The Red Devils have depth and speed again. They should be right there with Geneva.

3. Naperville North: Almost everyone, including top runner Michelle Stratton, is back from last season’s team that finished third in the state.

4. Neuqua Valley: Junior Megan Taylor is expected to step in as the Wildcats’ No. 1 runner.

5. Palatine: Sophomore Sarah McIntosh leads a talented group.

6. Lyons: The Lions graduated their top two runners, but they have plenty of talent back. Junior Katherin Rehn is expected to emerge.

7. Lake Park: The Lancers will be one of the most experienced teams. After finishing 10th last season, they return four of their top five runners, all of which are juniors and seniors.

8. Woodstock: The Blue Streaks bring back their top four runners, including sophomore Kayla Beattie.

9. Hersey: The Huskies have all seven runners returning from last season’s team, which finished 12th.

10. Young: The Dolphins are out to prove that last season wasn’t a fluke, and a team from the Public League can compete with the state’s best.
