Dick Goss: Lincoln-Way West offensive tackle Colin McGovern had no intentions of committing yet to Notre Dame when he attended the school’s Junior Day last Saturday. But he liked what he saw so much that he committed to the Irish that night.
WJOL tourney tweaked and ready to go

Dick Goss: With a couple of slight changes in place, the seventh annual WJOL Area Baseball Invite is scheduled March 30-31. The tournament will begin March 30 with games at Lockport, Providence and Lemont, will continue the morning of March 31 at Lockport and Providence and will conclude that afternoon and night with games at Silver Cross Field.

Dick Goss: The IHSA recently released the sectional assignments for boys basketball, and Minooka will play in the Lockport Sectional Complex. In recent years, the Indians were assigned to regionals with schools located south Interstate 80.

Dick Goss: Joliet Catholic senior wingback Malin Jones participated in last week’s Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl. The experience gave him a jump-start as he prepares for a college career at Northwestern.

Dick Goss: Mike Ivlow is a fullback in the Minooka football program. He also is the son of Bolingbrook coach John Ivlow. He was as thrilled with the Raiders’ Class 8A state championship as anyone in the Bolingbrook camp.

Dick Goss: Joliet Catholic has won 13 state championships, more than anyone else. After Saturday’s defensively challenged 70-45 loss to Montini in the Class 5A final at the University of Illinois in Champaign, the Hilltoppers have been involved in 17 championship games, again, more than anyone.

After being torn apart in a Week 9 loss to Marist, Joliet Catholic’s defense has played very well in the state football playoffs and has been a key in the Hilltoppers’ march to the Class 5A championship game.
