Lyndsay Kooi and Brea Rivera have enjoyed a lot of different experiences during their volleyball careers. On Wednesday, the two seniors from Minooka got the chance
to savor some of those moments during a special ceremony at their
school.
St. Charles East, which started two freshmen, a sophomore, a junior and
two seniors, stunned heavily-favored and senior-dominated Benet 23-25,
25-22, 25-19 to win the Class 4A girls volleyball championship Saturday at Redbird
Arena.
Annemarie Hickey had 10 kills, three aces and four digs and three other Angels
each had five kills as Joliet Catholic (39-3) won its second state
title in six years, beating Burlington Central 25-19, 25-14 in the
Class 3A championship.
Mother McAuley (39-3) got 10 kills from senior outside hitter Kelly Griffin,
18 assists and eight digs from senior setter Desiree Aramburu, and
contributions from the entire roster to defeat
Evanston 25-16, 25-19 Saturday for third place in Class 4A volleyball.
St. Edward got 12 kills and eight digs from Kristen Haggenjos, 10 kills
and eight assists from Katie Yohn and 11 assists from Rachel Varley to
beat Princeton 25-22, 26-24 Saturday in the Class 2A third-place game.
