Hinsdale Central, which was unranked in the preseason but captured its first state championship in program history, is No. 1 in the final Sun-Times girls soccer rankings for 2009.
Hinsdale Central, unheralded at the start of the girls soccer season, won its first state championship in the sport by edging Fremd 2-1 Saturday night in the Class 3A final at North Central College.
Jenn Lee scored a goal in each half to lead Wheaton Academy to a 3-0 shutout of Lemont Saturday in the Class 2A final at North Central College for its second girls soccer state title.
Lee Battaglia and Toni Kokenis both scored for Hinsdale Central as the Red Devils advanced to the state championship for the first time with a 2-0 win over Sandburg Friday in the Class 3A semifinals.
