For as long as Lauren Jorgensen lives, she will always remember the chilly Thursday night at North Park University.
Jorgensen and the rest of her Young teammates could have cared less how cold it was after capturing the Public League girls soccer championship with a 1-0 shootout victory over Payton (11-10-2).
“Since the start of school, all we talked about was getting ready for the season,” Jorgensen said. “There was a lot of dedication by everyone, and it paid off tonight.”
Katharina Bond, Becky Stetson, Jasmine Espio and Amber Oria tallied for the Dolphins (14-8-1) in the shootout.
“We had to prove that we could do it,” Espio said. “Anyone who doubted us, we changed their minds tonight. This is a great win for us, but it’s also great to win it for coach [Ian] McCarthy.”
