After a near-perfect first quarter, Lincoln-Way East lost its groove. But after blowing a 15-point lead the Griffins got it back and knocked off Warren 52-49 Friday in the McDonald’s Shootout at Willowbrook.

No. 13 Lincoln-Way East (15-2) grabbed a 20-5 lead after one quarter as Kersten Magrum scored eight, Amanda West four and Autum Korosic and Nellie Kosola each had a three-pointer.

But the Blue Devils (7-12), who have lost to 11 ranked teams, scored the first 13 points of the second quarter to make it a game.

“We definitely relaxed and let them back in the game,” said Magrum, who scored 17. “We had momentum and then we started missing and not taking good shots.”

“We stopped rebounding, stopped running and were playing lazy,” Griffins coach Jim Martin said. “Kersten still floats on her shot. When she jump-stops, she’ll be getting fouled more.”

Down 31-26 at the break, Warren opened the third quarter with three consecutive baskets to take its first lead, 32-31, on a basket by Joree Green, who finished with 16 points. A three-pointer by Lincoln-Way’s Theresa Tynski (nine points) late in the quarter put the Griffins ahead.

Warren took a 46-45 lead on a basket by Morgan Garrett but baskets by Tynski and Magrum gave the Griffins the victory.

Willowbrook 57, Regina 49: Angela Domin (19 points) and Taylor Nelson (18 points) led the Warriors (10-11), who built a 23-7 lead in the first quarter.

Vanessa Kieres topped Regina Dominican (9-12) with 13 points.

Domin scored 15 of her points in the first quarter, while Nelson had 11 points in the third quarter.

South Bend Washington (Ind.) 92, Lake Zurich 58: In a span of 57 seconds in the second quarter, Skyler Diggins demonstrated why she is ranked as the No. 1 point guard in the nation.

Lake Zurich led 27-25 when Diggins had a pair of steals, scored on a coast-to-coast drive, hit a jumper, added a three-point play and assisted on another basket during a 9-0 run for Washington (17-0).

Lake Zurich (15-4), which got 15 points from Lydia Bauer and Olivia Allen and another 14 points from Audrey Bauer, and was outscored 47-29 in the second and third quarters, never recovered from Diggins’ blitz.

“We know she is a great player. She takes over a basketball game,” Lake Zurich coach Chris Bennett said of the Notre Dame recruit. “We did a better job offensively early in the game, but (Washington) keeps coming at you and wears on you.”

Diggins finished with 31 points, while Takoia Larry had 17 points and Jazmine Watson added 15 for the Panthers.

Washington plays No. 3 Bolingbrook at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Willowbrook.
