The grin on Monica Albano’s face stretched from ear to ear. And it had every right to.
The Trinity senior recorded a career-high 37 points Thursday night in River Forest, and in doing so she led the No. 14 Blazers to their first victory over No. 8 Marian Catholic in four years by a 56-49 count.
“This was a big game for us,” said Albano, whose previous career high was 29 against Young last season. “I felt on from the start of the game.”
Albano recorded 16 of her team’s first 22 points and 22 of the Blazers’ first 31. But the difference was in the fourth quarter, when she accounted for 11 consecutive points and single handily knocked the Spartans (15-3) out.
Taricka Linzy added 10 for Trinity (17-3), while Jasmine Matthews had 11 for Marian.
