Bolingbrook coach Anthony Smith has a simple philosophy: "You can't lose if the other team doesn't score."
The No. 3 Raiders (9-3, 4-0 South West Suburban) held visiting Homewood-Flossmoor to one point in the first quarter and four points in the third quarter on their way to an easy 54-28 victory Tuesday in Bolingbrook.
"Defensively, we played well in spurts," Smith said "We still have to dig in on defense. We gave up just one point in the first quarter and then we gave up 11 points in the second. Here at Bolingbrook we have to play defense first, second and third."
Bolingbrook freshman Morgan Tuck overcame three early fouls to lead the Raiders with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ariel Massengale added 15 points and four assists and senior Satavia Taylor added nine points and five rebounds.
Andriana Mickens led Homewood-Flossmoor (10-6, 4-2) with 10 points, Jailyn Norris added seven points and Cici Shannon had 4 points and 11 rebounds. Bolingbrook was playing its first home game in more than a month after participating in tournaments in Phoenix, Ariz., and Ohio.
"It's been a while since we've been home," Smith said "but we had to go out on the road to find ourselves. Hopefully we found ourselves."
