Top-ranked Young is coming off a first-place finish at the Nike Tournament of Champions this week in Phoenix, Ariz.

No. 4 T.F. North won the Lincoln-Way East tournament on Tuesday.

Both teams have one more big game this week. They meet today at the City-Suburban Shootout at Attack Athletics.

It’s a compelling way to start the new year.

Young (16-1), the defending Class 4A state champions, and T.F. North (18-0) will close out the four-game shootout at 4:30 p.m.

There is another interesting angle to that matchup, which piqued the interest of Public League girls basketball coordinator Clarence Notree.

‘‘That last one is the premier game of the evening,’’ Notree said. ‘‘That’s going to be very competitive, plus we have a couple of former Public League players [on T.F. North] who transferred.’’

Centrese McGee transferred to T.F. North from Washington, and Dawn Luster played at Hope last year.

Young’s offense is balanced. Sophomore guard Chanise Jenkins leads the Dolphins in scoring. In the post, center Porsha Harris is close to averaging a double-double in points and rebounds despite a sore ankle.

In the day’s first matchup at noon, No. 15 Bogan faces Evanston. Bogan finished second this week at the Kroger Classic in Pickerington, Ohio, losing the title game to nationally ranked Mount Notre Dame (Ohio).

‘‘This shootout is great because it prepares us for the state tournament,’’ Bogan coach Gary Bell said. ‘‘It gives us a chance to play against teams with different styles.’’

Bogan’s Jalisa Olive and Lynette Holmes provide the bulk of the Bengals’ scoring, and Brittany Cochran is a strong rebounder.

‘‘I’m really pleased with all the girls, especially our bench,’’ Bell said.

No. 14 Von Steuben, which finished fourth Monday at Hillcrest, will play Rufus King of Milwaukee at 1:30.

No. 12 Marshall, the defending Class 3A state champion, plays Buffalo Grove at 3.
