One of Ilinois' premier girls basketball programs is looking for a new coach.
Tanya Johnson, who won two state championships at Loyola, has stepped down, the school announced in a statement on Wednesday.
"I have decided to seek new opportunities and challenges," Johnson said in the statement. "I am proud of the work I have done in building one of the most successful women's basketball programs in the state, and I am excited at the prospect of moving on to new opportunities elsewhere."
According to Loyola's Web site, Johnson won 12 regional titles, five sectional championships and seven GCAC crowns with Loyola and Marillac, an all-girls school that merged with Loyola in 1994 when the former went co-ed.
She led the Ramblers to back-to-back state titles in the 1997-98 and '98-99 seasons, and coached All-American Olga Gvozdenovic.
"Loyola appreciates Tanya's long years of dedicated service," Ramblers athletic director Patrick Mahoney said. "We respect Tanya's decision ... and wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
