Morgan Park defensive end Craig Drummond, who made an oral commitment to Illinois on his 18th birthday in November, said Sunday night he has de-committed from Illinois, has re-opened his recruiting process and is seriously considering Mississippi.
‘‘Illinois no longer is in the picture,’’ said Drummond, a 6-5, 265-pounder who is rated among the top 100 seniors in the nation. ‘‘There was some stuff going on with them. I don't want to talk about it. But I didn't feel it was the right place for me. This is the best decision for me.’’
He said he will visit the Ole Miss campus this weekend and plans to look at other schools.
Drummond missed the entire regular season with a foot injury but worked hard in the postseason to get back in top physical condition and was a standout in the recent U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
‘‘He showed there were no ill effects from his injury,’’ recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. ‘‘He still projects as a top 100 player.’’
