Robert Morgan's six touchdowns and 247 yards rushing on 10 carries powered Leo to a 42-12 victory over Hales Sunday afternoon at Gately Stadium.
“The offensive line made huge holes, and I just ran through them,” said Morgan, who amassed four touchdowns and 171 yards rushing on his first six carries. “I had a big run on my first carry [35 yards], and that just kind of set the tone for me.”
Morgan scored on runs of 30, one, 57, 20 and eight in the first half in propelling Leo (5-2, 3-0 Catholic Green) to a 36-6 lead at the break. Morgan totaled 190 yards on eight carries in the first half.
“Rob’s capable of having games like this every time out,” Leo coach Michael Holmes said. “He’s been due for a game like this. He’s a great back, but in a lot of our games, teams have had nine, 10[defenders] in the box, and there’s been a lot of frustration for him."
Morgan scored on a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Hales (1-6, 1-3) stayed close early behind Rodney Jaynes’ 61-yard fumble return for a touchdown. But Morgan responded with the 57-yard touchdown burst down the left sideline.
Reserve sophomore quarterback Tarik Smith threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Aaron Armstead.
