Maine South’s celebration of its 48-0 win over Waukegan in Central Suburban South play lasted only moments on Saturday.

As soon as the Hawks (6-0, 2-0) finished their post-game chants, their attention turned right away to next Friday’s opponent — undefeated Glenbrook South.

“Now we get to play football,” Maine South coach David Inserra told his team after its win.

The Titans are expected to provide No. 1 Maine South with its first test of the season.

“We’re pumped up to play another top 20 team,” said Maine South’s Zach Timm, who had 2.5 sacks against Waukegan. “We have to keep up the intensity. As long as we keep playing hard, no one can stop us.”

So far, the Hawks have dispersed with their opponents much like they did Waukegan (2-4, 0-2) on Saturday.

Quarterback Charlie Goro ran for three touchdown and passed for another two — all in the first half — as the Hawks took a 41-0 lead at halftime. Goro, a Vanderbilt recruit, sat out the second half and finished 12-of-20 passing for 182 yards.

Defensively, the Hawks didn’t allow Waukegan near their end zone. Maine South’s starting defense forced four turnovers – two fumbles and two interceptions – and gave up 38 yards in the first half.

“We’ve been working every week to get things clicking,” Timm said. “Now we’re all oiled up and ready to go.”

Matt Perez (five carries, 74 yards) and backup quarterback Tyler Benz ran for Maine South’s two other touchdowns. Wide receiver Brendan Cronin had a game-high 81 yards on three receptions, which included a touchdown.
