Price is right
Maine South coach Dave Inserra said former Hawks quarterback Sean Price, the Sun-Times Player of the Year in 2003, should have been listed among the career leaders as Aurora Christian’s Jordan Roberts goes after state records for career touchdown passes and passing yardage.
The Illinois High School Association’s record book does not include Price’s career marks of 93 touchdowns and 8,273 yards. Price holds the state single-season record with 4,751 passing yards in 2003. Roberts set a new state record by throwing his 98th touchdown pass last Friday. He is 554 yards short of the state mark for career passing yardage (8,308) set by Wil Lunt of Rochester.
Better than 2007?
Naperville North coach Larry McKeon isn’t ready to rate his 2008 squad over his Class 8A championship team of last season. But he sees significant differences.
‘‘This team has a much different personality,’’ he said. ‘‘Last year’s team was close and played well together. This group is more individualistic, not quite as close as last year, but they pull for each other.’’
Campus visit
Matt Vogrich of Lake Forest, a 6-4 guard who is rated among the top shooters in the class of 2009, has made two official visits —Notre Dame and Stanford — and has scholarship offers from Northwestern, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Providence, St. Louis and Baylor.
New lineup
Warren and Brandon Paul will meet Glenbrook North and Alex Dragicevich and De La Salle and Michael Shaw will face North Lawndale and Jonathan Mills in the 14th annual McDonald’s City-Suburban Showdown on Feb. 14 at Northwestern. Tickets can be purchased at TicketWeb.com or by calling (866) 468-3401.
Recruiting woes
According to recruiting analyst Van Coleman, of the 17 uncommitted players in his top 50, only two seriously are considering Big Ten schools. Dominic Cheek, a 6-5 forward from Jersey City, N.J., will visit Indiana, Kansas, Connecticut and Memphis. Jamil Wilson, a 6-7 forward from Racine, Wis., will visit Michigan State.
