Unbeaten Rockets soar by Bremen

Rich East's backfield depth means Daniel Harris' number doesn't get called as much as featured backs on other teams.

But the senior has no problem sharing the wealth.

"It [doesn't] really bother me," Harris said. "I'm playing defense too, so I may need a breather every now and then."

Harris still had plenty in the tank in the second half Saturday, busting off a 76-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to highlight Rich East's 41-10 nonconference win over visiting Bremen.

The 6-2, 200-pound wingback finished with 123 yards on 11 carries. Before his long dash down the left sideline, Harris also had scoring runs of eight and 13 yards in helping the Rockets (2-0) open a 21-3 halftime lead. He scored the third of his four touchdowns on a one-yard run midway through the third period.

"He's a talent," Rich East coach Barry Reade said. "He's got a lot of speed [and] he showed that."

Reggie Byrd added 68 yards and one touchdown on 19 rushes for the Rockets, and that wasn't his only contribution.

"My tailback, Reggie Byrd, gave me good blocks to get to the corners and get the touchdowns," Harris said.

The Rockets also got a 17-yard touchdown pass from Stephen O'Neal to Joshua Dyer.

"We've got a lot of skilled athletes both on offense and defense," Reade said. "It's nice to have the depth we do."

Rich East's defense forced a pair of turnovers, including Jordan Byrd's interception in his own end zone, and held Bremen (1-1) to 162 net yards.

Tackle Bruce Collins, linebacker Jovan Amos and defensive back Logan Coan were among the stars on that side of the ball.

"They played real well," Reade said of his defensive players. "They flew around."

"When we've got the defense doing a good job and going hard, that makes us motivated to do more," Harris said.

Bremen had a 32-yard touchdown run from Keithan Hedrick (nine carries, 66 yards) and a 32-yard field goal by Joshua Techeira.
