Dave Marciano wants to be remembered at St. Rita after his playing days are over. So far, he’s off to a good start achieving exactly that in his senior season.
After scoring the winning touchdown in the opening week, Marciano followed up in Week 2 by returning a punt and an interception for touchdowns as he helped the No. 3 Mustangs to a 35-7 rout of visiting De La Salle (1-1) on Friday.
‘‘This is my senior year,’’ Marciano said. ‘‘I love this school so much. I want to go out with a bang.’’
St. Rita coach Todd Kuska knows he can put Marciano in any situation in the game and get that bang.
‘‘He’s a playmaker,’’ Kuska said. ‘‘He does a lot of things for us. He scores on offense. He scores on defense. He scores on special teams.’’
St. Rita’s defense also sparkled Friday. Out of De La Salle’s 13 possessions, the Mustangs forced nine punts, one fumble, one interception, a safety and one turnover on downs. The Meteors finished with just three first downs.
‘‘We had a passion today,’’ Marciano said. ‘‘Today, we finished. That’s our motto — finish.’’
St. Rita’s Dan Dispensa scored twice on runs, and Patrick Walsh caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Lawrence Garrett.
De La Salle’s Mark Kasper scored the Meteors’ lone touchdown on a four-yard run in the second quarter.
Meteors quarterback Tom Lally had completions of 60 and 68 yards in the loss. Clayton Kendall and Gerrick Ratliff picked off passes for the Meteors.
