For the second year in a row, Marian Central quarterback Jon Budmayr, a Wisconsin recruit, is out with an injury. But this time it may be for the rest of the regular season.

“[His leg injury] happened in the second game of the season last year and he missed a couple games,” Hurricanes coach Ed Brucker said. “But this time it looks like a broken collarbone, so that’s going to be more than a couple of weeks.”

Budmayr was thrown to the ground on his shoulder in the first quarter of Friday night's game against North Chicago and was taken out. Backup Andrew Stochl came in and led Marian to a 21-6 win.

“I was so looking forward to this season,” Budmayr said. “Just like that, it’s probably over. ... I’m glad we won but I’m hurting right now.”

According to Brucker, the loss also cost the Hurricanes their best receiver as Stochl now becomes the quarterback.

Last season, Budmayr passed for nearly 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns despite missing five games with a hamstring injury. He also led Marian to the Class 5A state championship game in 2006 (a 35-14 loss to Springfield Sacred Heart) and to the semifinals in 2007 (a 10-9 loss to Morris).

"I think you could say I'm bummed out," Budmayr said.
