Scott Covert, a standout defensive lineman at Lake Forest and the son of former Chicago Bears offensive tackle Jimbo Covert, recently received two scholarship offers.
The 6-4, 240-pound Scott Covert, a rising senior known for his on-field tenacity, has offers from Pittsburgh and Iowa, according to recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.
“He’s exceptionally aggressive,” Lemming said. “He is a relentless, hard-working kid who can’t stay blocked. His motor is always going.”
Lemming said Covert stood out at the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio in January and that he was equally as impressive at one-day camps at Pittsburgh and Iowa. Illinois, Indiana, Colorado and Northern Illinois are also reportedly interested in Covert.
“Offensive linemen had trouble blocking him all day (in San Antonio),” Lemming said. “I imagine he’ll get a lot more offers.”
Covert also has those good football genes to help him out as well. His father Jimbo was a two-time All-American at Pitt before being drafted by the Bears in the first round in 1983. He made the Pro Bowl twice and was part of the Bears' Super Bowl Team in 1985.
LIVING ON THE EDGE
According to EdgyTim.com, Maine South standout quarterback Charlie Goro (6-3, 190 pounds) received his first Big Ten offer from Illinois last Wednesday. He also recently received offers from Central Michigan and Ohio University.
"It feels really good to finally be able to start drawing some additional offers and recruiting interest," Goro told the Web site.
Goro, who also has offers from Eastern Illinois, Air Force and South Dakota, passed for more than 2,700 yards and 26 touchdowns last season. He was also named to the Sun-Times All-Area team. (Check back for more on Goro.)
