Some of the top football players in the Chicago area talked with Yourseason.com at area 7-on-7 competitions this summer about their goals and expectations for the upcoming season.
This installment of videos includes three of the better quarterbacks in the area in Marian Central’s Jon Budmayr, Montini’s Tom DiCristina and Downers Grove South’s Chandler Whitmer.
Budmayr, a Wisconsin recruit, is one of the most “polished” quarterbacks in the Class of 2009, according to recruiting analyst Tim O’Halloran.
“Jon Budmayr is everybody’s All-American,” OHalloran said. “He’s an All-American kid and I am very comfortable putting that tag on him … He’s a great quarterback.”
Last season, Budmayr (6-1, 185 pounds) passed for nearly 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns despite missing five games with a leg injury. He also started as a sophomore, leading his team to the Class 5A title game.
“You watch him and he makes all the right throws,” O’Halloran said.
DiCristina, another Suburban Catholic standout quarterback in the Class of 2009, overcame any doubts about his size (he’s listed at 5-10, 170) by completing 68 percent of his passes for 1,923 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. He was only intercepted seven times, as Montini finished 9-2.
“He throws a really good ball,” O’Halloran said.
Whitmer, who transferred to Downers South from his home state of Georgia, is one the best quarterbacks in the Class of 2010. Last season as a sophomore, he led the Mustangs to an undefeated regular season.
Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Arizona, Arizona State and South Florida are reportedly interested in the 6-1, 190-pound Whitmer, who won Most Valuable Player honors at Schuman’s National Underclassmen Combine in May of 2007 as a freshman.
