Friday was not a good day for the favorites at the Lincoln-Way East Invitational as No. 5 Sandburg, No. 7 Brother Rice and No. 9 Naperville Central all lost in pool play.
Lincoln-Way Central defeated Naperville Central 25-14, 25-22 behind Corey Bingham (six kills) and Brian Thorp (six kills, nine assists).
“There was a point in the season where we lost five in a row and that forced us to reevaluate what we’re doing,” Lincoln-Way Central coach Joann Holverson said. “We switched to a 6-2 offense, which freed up Brian to hit, and as a reslut, we’ve been much improved.”
Lincoln-Way Central's Dan Tanjic added five kills and Bobby Brodinski had seven digs against Naperville Central (22-5).
Sophomore setter Connor Wexter added 13 assists for the Knights (22-7) .
“Connor has stepped in and done a nice job running our offense,” Holverson said. “He’s had no trouble adjusting to the faster pace of varsity volleyball.
