Junior outside hitter Reis Foster had four of his match-high six kills in the second game as Loyola rallied to beat Evanston 25-19, 25-22 Friday night.

Foster, who missed the Ramblers' first two matches while academically ineligible, came off the bench to help ruin the season opener for the visiting Wildkits. Foster added two aces to outscore Loyola setter Elias Aparcedo 8-7. Aparcedo had three kills and four aces.

"Right there, ball control is what it's all about," Loyola coach Lionel Ebeling said. "(Foster) passes the ball. He gives our libero, Kevin Feeley, more confidence."

Foster had the key match-tying kill in the second set when his blast from Aparcedo's pass was dug out by the Evanston defense, but the ball hit the ceiling and ricocheted to the floor to tie the match at 21-21. The Ramblers (2-1) scored two more points off an Aparcedo ace and a hitting error by Evanston's Derek Guimond.

Loyola trailed 21-18 in the second set before coming back. The Ramblers took an 18-9 lead in the first set. In the match, Evanston had 10 services errors and Loyola led 10-3 on aces.

"For the first game, I think we had first match jitters there," Evanston coach Mike McDermott said. "At times, we did not focus. We did not force the other team on serve-receive."

Stefano Jean-Jacques and Alex Wiss-Wolferding led Evanston with five kills each.
