After losing to eventual city champion Kelly in the Sweet 16 of the city playoffs, Lane Tech was looking for a little validation.
The Indians got that and their second sectional title as they defeated Juarez 2-1 in overtime Thursday to win the St. Ignatius Sectional.
‘‘Every good team is going to have its trip-up,’’ Lane coach Andrew Ricks said. ‘‘We wanted to prove that we’re a good team.’’ Rodolfo Fransual scored the winning goal off an assist from Chris Chaquinga.
‘‘Somehow it got to me and I just had to push it in the goal,’’ Fransual said. ‘‘I was so excited to score that goal.’’
Juarez took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Aaron Romo with 7:17 to play in the first half.
Lane (15-4-2) answered on a goal by Chaquinga just 1:30 into the second half.
Geneva 4, Wheaton Academy 1
Shawn Sloan scored the game-winner for the second straight game and Adam Cornwell added a pair of insurance goals to lead Geneva to a 4-1 victory over Wheaton Academy in the championship match of the Class AA Wheaton Academy Sectional.
Sloan gave the Vikings (19-5-3) a 2-1 lead when he scored from five yards out with 18:26 remaining in the second half.
Cornwell’s goals, off assists from Mike McCabe and Maxwell Cary, completed a stretch of three goals in seven minutes.
‘‘The second half was just huge for us,’’ said Cornwell, who has 22 goals. ‘‘We just played like we wanted to win. I think we just wanted it more.’’
It was the 16th consecutive victory for Geneva. Wheaton (15-4-5) scored on a header by Lucas Young with 32:34 remaining in the second half.

Argo 2, Kelly 0
Last year, Kelly stunned top-seeded Argo in the Class AA sectional finals.
This time, Argo got its revenge.
The sixth-seeded Argonauts used two goals from Jose Lopez to upset top-seeded Kelly 2-0 to win the St. Xavier University Sectional.
Lopez staked Argo (17-6-1) to a 1-0 lead on a 25-yard goal with 29:40 left in the first half.
Lopez’s second goal came with 8:06 left in the game to clinch the win.
David Mickiewitz recorded his 12th shutout of the year.
‘‘The first goal allowed us to play our game, which is a defensive game,’’ Argo coach John Gaytan said. ‘‘Losing last year helped our focus this year.’’
