Geneva remained one of the hottest soccer teams in the state Tuesday by knocking off top-seeded Wheaton Warrenville South 2-1 in a Class AA sectional semifinal at Wheaton Academy.

The Vikings (18-5-3) extended their winning streak to 15 and proved that their 3-1 early-season victory over the Tigers (19-4-4) was no fluke.

Junior Shawn Sloan scored the winning goal three minutes into the second half. Sloan knifed between two defenders and knocked home a cross from Andy Filipiak from six yards out for his 14th goal.

‘‘We’ve made a lot of changes since that first game,’’ Sloan said. ‘‘We’ve had some good practices and our guys have really maintained focus throughout these playoff games.’’

Geneva had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of the game on Adam Cornwell’s 20th goal off a Maxwell Cary assist.

‘‘We made two grave errors defensively and both times they capitalized,’’ WW South coach Guy Callipari said.

Geneva goalie Greg Duff made three saves including one at the final buzzer on a long shot by Scott Larson.

Wheaton Academy 1, St. Charles North 0

In the other semifinal game, Wheaton Academy (15-3-5) advanced to its first Class AA sectional final with a 1-0 victory over St. Charles North.

Lucas Young scored on a diving header in the 23rd minute off a long free kick by Andrew Knighten.

New Trier 7, Niles North 0

New Trier (19-2-1) moved up and down the field with ease as it rolled past Niles North 7-0 in the Glenbrook North Sectional. Kyle McCrudden and Ryan Foreman scored on headers off crosses from Chris Ritter in the rout.

Mike Alpogianis also scored on a cross that bounced off a Niles North defender, and he closed scoring with eleven minuites left with another goal.

Glenbook South 4, Niles West 3

Down 2-0 in the first half, Glenbrook South (11-10-3) came back behind a hat trick from Raul Hudema to post a 4-3 win over Niles West.

Juarez 1, St. Patrick 0

Aaron Romo’s goal lifted Juarez past St. Patrick 1-0 in a St. Ignatius Sectional semifinal match.

The Eagles (16-8-1) advanced to play Lane Tech on Thursday.
