Walt Sawosko, the former athletic director at Proviso West who founded the Proviso West Holiday Basketball Tournament in 1961, has died after a lengthy illness. He was 81.
‘‘Walt certainly laid the groundwork for a great deal of the successes later to come,’’ said Joe Spagnolo, who has been involved with the tournament since 1981.
