OrrÂ’s Mycheal Henry.
15-year-old Darrell McKinney, the brother of Orr basketball standout Mycheal Henry, was shot and killed Saturday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
He may have been struck by stray gunfire from a person chasing and shooting at someone else, police said.
Police responded at 8:39 p.m. to the 800 block of North Harding Avenue and found the boy with a gunshot wound to the chest, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
It may be that someone armed with a weapon was chasing and intending to shot at someone else and opened fire but instead struck the teen, who was sitting in a chair, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
Police think the boy may not have been the intended target of the shooting, Perez said. This has not yet been confirmed as of Sunday morning.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the boy as 15-year-old Darrell McKinney, of an unknown home address, and listed the location of the shooting as on the 950 block of North Harding Avenue, a spokesman said.
McKinney was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 9:16 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
Henry, a senior, gave an oral commitment to Illinois last year.
He was first team all-state and all-area last season. Orr is expected
to be one of the top teams in the state this year.
