Naperville North senior center Matt Hasse gave a verbal commitment to Austin Peay on Monday, ending a quick recruiting process and solidifying himself as a Division I prospect.
The 6-foot-9 Hasse visited the Tennessee campus in late October, received an offer on Sunday and notified the Austin Peay staff the next day. The Governors have consistently been in the March Madness conversation, advancing to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship game in six of the past seven seasons.
Hasse got interest from Dartmouth as well as several Division II and III programs. Basketball’s early signing period runs Nov. 11-18, when Hasse can officially sign with the school that has a basketball sense of stability. Coach Dave Loos, who is heading into his 20th season leading the program, has 314 victories at Austin Peay, which ranks second in conference history.
“It’s kind of a shocker for me because I think about how I’m for sure going to play in a D1 (program),” Hasse said. “It’s kind of a dream come true.”
