Matt Vogrich simply took over the North Suburban Conference title game after halftime.
The Lake Forest standout scored 29 of his 38 points in the second half to lead the No. 11 Scouts to a 74-63 come-from-behind win over No. 24 North Chicago on Wednesday.
Vogrich took just seven shots in first half, as the Scouts fell behind 30-24 after two quarters.
“In the first half, everyone was packing it in under the basket and we were taking bad shots from outside,” Vogrich said. “After the half, coach (Phil LaScalla) said we had to take it to the basket and we did.”
Vogrich was 5-for-7 from the field in the third quarter and 5-for-8 in the fourth as the Scouts rallied. Lake Forest (21-4) took a 61-49 lead on Vogrich’s basket with 4:07 left and the Warhawks never threatened again.
Kevin Verardini scored 19 points for the Scouts. Aaron Simpson, a freshman, and Keith Ford each scored 18 to lead North Chicago (20-5).
