No. 20 Lake Forest overcame a scrappy Libertyville squad to prevail 51-46 Saturday in a North Suburban Lake home game.
"[Libertyville] provided some situations for us that made us uncomfortable," said Scouts coach Phil LaScala. "They're a feisty team, but we won and that's the most important thing."
Lake Forest (13-3, 6-1) had its hands full from the start. Holding a 15-14 lead with 4:26 to play in the second quarter, the Scouts finished the half with an 8-2 run for a 23-16 advantage.
The Wildcats (5-10, 2-4) managed to pull within 32-29 with 1:54 remaining in the third quarter, but that's as close as they would get.
Lake Forest led 39-32 after three quarters and the lead would never get under five points in the final quarter. Michigan-bound Matt Vogrich had an off night but still led the Scouts with 15 points.
"I didn't really shoot well because I got in foul trouble and couldn't get in rhythm," Vogrich said. "We didn't play well, but we got it done."
Mitch Hopfinger added 12 points for Lake Forest while Myles Burton (12 points) and John Colao (11 points) led Libertyville in the loss.
