After a hard-fought victory over Richards on Tuesday, Mount Carmel coach Mike Flaherty was concerned about an emotional letdown against Hales on Friday night.
His concern was unwarranted as the Caravans rolled to a 62-44 Catholic League South victory Friday on the road.
Mount Carmel grabbed a 29-15 lead at halftime.
“I was very apprehensive, but it was an overall good team effort for most of the game,” Flaherty said. “We still left points on the floor and there’s always room for improvement. We teach the kids no matter what the score is or who you are playing, we always try to be as good as we can be.”
Jonathan Gac had a game-high 13 points, while Don McAvoy and Adonis Filer scored 11 apiece for Mount Carmel. Tracy Abrams had eight points and nine assists for the Caravan (11-5 2-0).
Patrick Miller, Jamie Adams and Aaron Armstead each scored six points for Hales (6-9, 1-1).
“We have a young team, no starters back from last year and we’re just up and down,” Hales coach Gary London said. “We have been in every game up until now, but our [lack of] experience really showed and it caught up with us in this one.”
