Notre Dame's Mike DiGregorio rescued the Dons in overtime as they held off St. Viator 72-69 Friday in Arlington Heights.

"We got a second chance in overtime and we didn't want to give it up," said DiGregorio, who scored six of his 11 points in the extra period.

Notre Dame (9-3, 3-1) built a 39-24 advantage with 1:20 left in the first half.

St. Viator (9-5, 2-3) chipped away at the lead behind Richard McLaughlin (18 points), K.J. Sherwood (12 points) and Alan Alboona (13 points). The Lions had a chance to win in regulation, but Notre Dame double-teamed McLaughlin and his jumper hit the back of the rim as the game was tied at 61.

In overtime, DiGregorio scored six of the Don's first eight points as they built a 69-64 lead.

St. Viator, which missed five of its first six free throws in overtime, closed to 70-69 on Sherwood's two free throws with 12.2 seconds left.

Jimmy Martin, who led all scorers with 22 points, nailed two free throws with 9.3 seconds left. Sherwood's 35-foot shot was then off target.
