Resiliance was the key word for Hillcrest this week after the Hawks suffered a tough loss Saturday to once-beaten Champaign Centennial.
Travis Scott, the only senior in the Hillcrest starting lineup, scored 24 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Hawks past host Tinley Park 80-55 on Friday night.
Hillcrest (7-7, 3-0 South Suburban Blue) led 44-37 with 3:59 remaining in the third quarter before outscoring the Titans 27-6 over the next 6:40.
"We werent playing as a team earlier in the year," Scott said. "But I feel this is a good starting point for us."
Junior Eric Gaines added 20 points for Hillcrest. Roosevelt Green had 16 points for Tinley Park (5-8, 2-2).
"We have a very young team," Hilcrest coach Don Houston said. We've been trying to get them to play together. We've come so close, but there has always been one little thing that's prevented us from being over the hump.
"Our word for the week as resiliance, and I thought we showed it tonight by bouncing back from that tough loss Saturday. This was the beat team effort I've seen from us all year."
