Simeon needed a spark Thursday afternoon at Carver and Darrin Walker provided it.
Walker, a sophomore reserve, scored nine of his game-high 19 points in the third quarter, when Simeon outscored Carver 23-4 to open a 42-19 lead en route to a 53-26 Red-South win.
"He came off the bench and gave us a real big lift," Simeon coach Robert Smith. "I don't know how many points he scored, but [he did it with] his energy."
The Wolverines (8-7, 4-0) needed something after a second quarter in which they were 1-for-11 shooting with eight turnovers. That aside, Simeon still led 19-15 at the half as Carver was 6-for-17 from the field and 2-for-10 from the foul line in the first two quarters.
"It was a terrible game," Smith said. "We didn't play well at all. But at this point of the season it's just about getting 'W's."
The Simeon coach did find one bright spot. "We came out in the second half and played better defense," Smith said.
Brandon Spearman added 11 points for the Wolverines.
Deshawn Delaney led Carver with 10 points.
