No. 3 Warren suffered a Pontiac hangover, but the Blue Devils recovered in time to beat host Libertyville 59-43 Tuesday in the North Suburban Lake.
"We were fighting human nature," said Warren coach Chuck Ramsey said. "We were coming off a tournament championship and we have to turn around and now we have to focus on playing this game. That was a battle."
Warren had to overcome 7-of-28 shooting in the first half, including 1-of-14 from outside the arc.
The Blue Devils led 24-21 with 5:06 left in the third quarter when they finally made their run. The Blue Devils scored eight unanswered points on their way to a 10-1 run to lead 34-22 with 54 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Wildcats got no closer than five the rest of the way.
"Coach really did not tell us not to shoot threes in the second half," Warren's Brandon Paul said. "He just said to play inside out and let the game come to us and not force any shots."
Paul led Warren (11-1, 4-0) with 30 points and 15 rebounds. James Poliquin added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Devils.
Libertyville (4-8, 1-4) was led by Myles Burton, who had 17 points, and Jeremy Letchford, who finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
