North Lawndale avoided any letdown from winning the Public League Holiday Tournament last weekend by steamrolling Farragut 97-64 in a Red West road win.
"Championship teams play hard every game for 32 minutes," said Phoenix head coach Lewis Thorpe said. "It's somewhat of a rivalry game so I expect them to play hard."
Farragut (6-7, 1-3) grabbed a 5-2 lead early on but it was all North Lawndale (12-2, 3-0) after that as the Phoenix took a 25-19 lead into the second quarter and a 47-36 advantage into halftime.
Twelve different Phoenix players scored led by Terry Johnson (19 points) and Jermaine Winfield (16 points). Other key contributors for North Lawndale were Jacquez Jones (14 points), Jonathan Mills (11 points, 14 rebounds) and Miles Mayfield (10 points).
"This is a game we really wanted to win," Johnson said. "I think we're playing great defense and that will help us keep winning."
Leading the way for the Admirals were Darian Malone (18 points) and Tyshawn Ferguson (13 points).
