Simeon weathered Fenger's 8-0 game-opening run to roll to a 75-63 win at home Tuesday in the Red-South.
Brandon Spearman and Jeremy Jones combined for 43 points with Spearman hitting 16 of his game-high 22 points in the first half. Simeon (7-7, 3-0) held a 38-34 lead at the break.
The Titans (7-6, 2-1) fell behind by 17 points in the second half. But they trimmed the lead to two points, 60-58, with 3:22 remaining in the fourth quarter on two free throws by Melvin Gates.
The Wolverines used a 15-5 run to close out the game.
Krystal Jackson scored 14 points and Ray McElrath had a game-high 11 rebounds for Simeon.
Gates finished with 22 points, while Kevin Davis and Sean Leggett each added 14 points for Fenger.
“We started out slow, but our bench came in and did a great job,” said Simeon coach Robert Smith. “Spearman played a great game for us, especially in the first half.”
Smith said he was not surprised how tough Fenger played the Wolverines. “It was great to coach against Loren Jackson again. You know his teams are always going to play hard and make you earn it.”
