Visiting Geneva used a patient offense to earn a 50-39 victory on Friday against Batavia.

The Vikings opened a 13-2 lead early in the second quarter and never trailed in the Western Sun rivalry game.

Christian Frederking, a 6-4 point guard, scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half for Geneva. Senior Jeremy D’Amico finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings (8-1, 4-1).

‘‘We have completely bought into [first-year] coach [Phil] Ralston’s style, even though we like getting up and down the court,’’ said Frederking, who scored several times on layups in Geneva’s spread offense. ‘‘I just wanted to be aggressive, take care of the ball and look for good shots.’’

The Vikings were equally impressive on the defensive end, preventing the Bulldogs from taking any easy inside shots. Batavia (5-2, 1-2) didn’t score its 30th point until 2:09 remained in the game.

Bulldogs guard David Bryant scored a game-high 25 points, including 19 in the second half. Bryant made 10 of 12 free throws but was only 3-for-9 from behind the three-point arc.

‘‘Our kids had their composure in this big game,’’ Ralston said. ‘‘When Batavia cut [the deficit] to three points in the third quarter [22-19], we kept our composure and looked for the open man.’’
