Dan Fahey watched Darius Parker get hot and saw a less-talented St. Laurence team a little too close for St. Ignatius’ comfort Friday night at Loyola University.

“With us, it always starts with defense and we had to lock Parker down because he was hot,” said Fahey, a senior guard. A junior sharpshooter, Parker drilled four NBA-range three-pointers to fuel an 11-2 run the turned a 14-point Vikings’ deficit to 25-20 late in the second quarter.

Fahey harassed Parker, and he never scored again.

The Wolfpack rode their typical balance and defensive toughness to an impressive 53-33 victory over the Vikings at Alumni Gym.

Fahey scored a game-high 14 points to power the No. 9 Wolfpack (7-2, 1-0 Catholic League South). Fahey’s three-point play ended a 7-0 second quarter run that re-asserted the Wolfpack’s earlier dominance.

Fahey scored on a three-point play, followed by a lay up by Joe Bulliner, that pushed the Wolfpack out to a 37-22 lead. Junior guard Jack Fischer scored 11 points, and Bulliner and Peter Doerrer added eight points apiece for St. Ignatius.

“One of our best players [Mario Knezovic] has been out with an injury, but he’s coming back next week, and we’ve had other guys step up and share the scoring,” Fahey said.

Parker’s 12 points led St. Laurence (3-5, 0-1), which never closed inside of double-digits in the second half.
