Mount Carmel’s Tracy Abrams took it all in stride.

After orally committing to Illinois earlier this week, the sophomore point guard led the Caravan to a 62-43 victory over Catholic League South opponent Providence Friday in Chicago.

‘‘I just feel like like it’s there,’’ Abrams said. ‘‘It won’t affect me or how I play. I just have to keep working hard.’’

Abrams led No. 24 Mount Carmel (7-3, 1-0) with 13 points in a game where the Caravan showed just how balanced their offense can be.

Adonis Filer (11 points) Delino Dear (10 points), Don McAvoy (six points) and Malcolm Hill-Bey (nine points) all contribued for Mount Carmel. Jonathon Gac added nine points off the bench for the Caravan.

Abrams scored six points in the first quarter as Mount Carmel took a 19-10 lead. However, he was on the bench when the Caravan took control behind a 7-0 second quarter run to extend the lead to 26-12.

‘‘I feel like we go 11 deep actually,’’ Mount Carmel coach Mike Flaherty said. ‘‘Billy Clark does a lot of things that don’t show up in the scorebook. He’s always in the right spot on defense.’’

Mount Carmel forced 22 Celtics’ turnovers.

Kevin McNally led Providence (1-7, 1-1) with nine points.
