It was just another day at the ballpark for senior catcher Joe Turek, who continued his scorching hitting pace in leading Lincoln-Way East to a 13-3, five-inning victory over Class 4A regional host Hinsdale Central on Wednesday.
Turek blasted his 12th homer of the season –- a two-run shot to left field -– in the first inning, then followed with a bases-clearing double in the second as the Griffins (21-10) mounted an 8-0 lead.
Turek, who went 2-for-2 with a walk, finished with five RBI, giving him 53 for the season.
"I’ve just been sitting back and really seeing the ball well," said Turek, who's hitting over .500. "When our offense gets going, we can be very explosive."
Michigan-bound shortstop John Lorenz added a three-run homer in the third inning and junior Brandon Hohl added two doubles. Junior left-hander Dietrich Enns (7-2) struck out eight, walked three and allowed six hits in five innings to earn the win.
Hinsdale Central (12-20), which had upset Providence on Tuesday, was led by Jared White’s two hits and Josh Camalick’s two-run single.
