Joe Frahm has been battling back problems all season. But the pain didn't prevent the senior right-hander from throwing a two-hitter in No. 7 Young's 4-3 victory over Simeon in the Public League semifinals at UIC on Monday.
Frahm (5-1), who was the starting shortstop on last year's team that won the city crown, yielded only one earned run, struck out three and walked one to help Young (26-4) advance to the title game next Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Field.
"My back has been bothering me, so I just wanted to throw strikes and hope we get some runs on the board," Frahm said.
Senior third baseman Troy White led the Dolphins by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Adeniji Bowden went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the fifth.
Simeon (18-6), which scored two unearned runs in the sixth to make it 4-3, was paced by Steve Florence's two hits, including an RBI double. Right-hander Troy Williams (7-3) allowed eight hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort.
