Cary-Grove erupted for four runs in the top of the seventh to break open a close game and top host McHenry 10-5 on Wednesday evening.
The Trojans' Nick Hammonds set the tone for the decisive inning with a two-run double.
Cary-Grove (22-8, 9-4 Fox Valley) flirted with disaster in the bottom of the sixth, but relief pitcher Sean Kaveney escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam with the Trojans still nursing a 6-5 lead.
"No doubt about it, that was huge," Cary-Grove coach Don Sutherland said. "I'm a huge believer that when you stop them and then your first couple of guys get on the next inning [good things happen]."
Eric Aguilera led the Trojans with three RBI, including a two-run homer in the top of the first.
McHenry ace Zach Badgley was chased from the game after surrendering six runs (five earned) in 4 2/3 innings.
Barrett Painter knocked in a pair of runs for the Warriors (16-11, 8-5).
