Deerfield right-hander Sam Dickstein hasn't gotten much run support in several of his losses this season.

On Monday, all Dickstein needed was one run, as the senior blanked Central Suburban North rival Highland Park 1-0 to snap the Giants' 13-game win streak at Deerfield.

The 6-foot-2 Dickstein (3-5), who took a line shot off the foot in the first inning, settled down after yielding five hits through three innings. He allowed only three more the rest of the way, and recorded three strikeouts and walked one. He also benefited from two inning-ending double plays.

"This rivalry is huge," said Dickstein. "[Highland Park] has been playing great ball and I knew I had to do something about that."

Deerfield (13-10, 9-6) got its run on an Highland Park (19-6, 12-3) error in the second inning.

Highland Park left-hander Garrett Gordon (4-2) was the tough-luck loser this time. The senior limited the Warriors to only three hits, struck out three and didn't allow an earned run.
