Young's Jack Cinoman took advantage of a strong, gusting win and blasted a three-run home run and a run-scoring double to power the host Dolphins past Harlan 13-2 in a five-inning game Saturday.
Im naturally an opposite-field hitter, and the home-run ball was the perfect pitch, said Cinoman. It was a high, outside fastball and I just went with it.
His home run gave the Dolphins a 5-0 first-inning lead. Senior shortstop Julian Kenner added a solo blast, also to the opposite field.
Young (16-4, 8-0 Jackie Robinson South) recorded 10 hits, including five for extra-bases. Junior right-fielder Adeniji Bowden added a two-run single, and sophomore John Schreiber added two RBI.
Despite the difficult pitching conditions, senior Joe Frahm (3-0) was impressive, allowing just six hits in four innings.
I felt good warming up, but the conditions made it hard because I throw a lot of off-speed stuff, said Frahm, who fanned five. I thought it was going to be a breeze, but (the leadoff Harlan batter) hit that ball into centerfield and that made me mad. That made me focus.
Harlan (18-8, 3-5) scored on RBI doubles by Chance Johnson and Kyle Johnson.
